More than 203,000 delegates—mostly local and national NPP executives—are taking part in the election to choose the party’s presidential nominee.
They have to select one candidate from the four vying to be the NPP’s leader going into the general elections in 2024.
Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the MP for Assin Central, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President, Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, the former Agriculture Minister, and Francis Addai-Nimoh, the former MP for Mampong, are the contestants today.
The Vice President is expected to win, according to polls, but the other three candidates are also confident and upbeat about their prospects.
On Thursday, November 2, all four candidates signed a pledge promising to stay in the party even if one of them lost the primary.
Both the Ghana Police Service and the Electoral Commission have pledged that they have made sufficient preparations to guarantee a successful and orderly primary.
Relatedly, some supporters of NPP flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong held a gathering to urge some grassroots to vote massively for the Member of Parliament for Assin Central ahead of Saturday’s primaries.
In the meeting, the leader of the Grassroots Movement charged the members not to be intimidated or swayed by money but, should take the money and still vote for Kennedy Agyapong to become the next NPP flagbearer to the lead the party in 2024 presidential elections.
