Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President, has declared that he is the most qualified candidate to head the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the general elections of 2024.

If he is chosen to be the flagbearer, he claimed that the governing party will have a better chance of winning the upcoming elections.

Speaking with the media on Thursday at his Accra home in advance of the NPP’s election of a new flagbearer on Saturday, Dr. Bawumia expressed great optimism that, following his productive, nationwide engagements with delegates, he will be voted on by party delegates to lead the party.

“By the grace of God, l have brought my campaign, the visits to the NPP delegates in their constituencies to an end. Every constituency has been a home for me for the past 15 years, and for this particular campaign, my mission was simple; to let the delegates know why I represent the NPP’s best chance of breaking the 8 in next year’s presidential election, if I am elected the party’s flagbearer,” Dr. Bawumia said.

In his speech to the delegates, Dr. Bawumia reiterated his campaign platform, which highlighted his strong ties to the party at all levels, his dedication to serving the party from opposition to the present, his pivotal role in the historic 2012 election petition before the Supreme Court, his influence in government as Vice President, his support for party events, and his policies to fortify party unity and the relationship between government and party in the event that he is elected flagbearer and goes on to win the presidency.

“My message to the delegates has been that l will give the NPP its best chance to win election 2024 – what we simply describe as “breaking the eight,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia reaffirmed his support for party unity prior to this Saturday’s election, after earlier in the campaign he demanded a civilized campaign free of insults.
