According to Eric Edem Agbana, the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Ketu North Constituency, the opposition party is unfazed by the prospect of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia becoming the New Patriotic Party’s nominee for president in the 2024 election.
Agbana believes that Dr. Bawumia‘s incapacity and shortcomings outweigh his strengths, and as a result, the NDC cannot be intimidated by his candidacy.
He made it clear that the NDC is aware of Dr. Bawumia’s reputation and past performance, which does not bode well for him.
Citing previously unheard-of debt and financial hardship, he went on to say that Dr. Bawumia’s leadership of the Economic Management Team has not produced positive economic results.
He came to the conclusion that Dr. Bawumia is the candidate the NDC believes is the easiest to defeat among those seeking to lead the governing party into the 2024 elections.
Dr. Bawumia’s performance, in Edem Agbana’s opinion, does not pose a serious threat to the NDC in the next elections.
“I have told people that Dr Bawumia is just a replica of President Akufo-Addo because Dr Bawumia is the head of the Economic Management Team and he has said that on countless occasions and his boss [President Akufo-Addo] has also confirmed that he has given him that leverage to act because he has so much confidence in him, and look at his performance with the economy. We are experiencing unprecedented levels of debt and it is about to crash.”
“So what is it about Dr Bawumia that will scare us in the National Democratic Congress? For me, if there is any candidate among the four of them who is easily beatable and will help us, it is Dr Bawumia because we know him and we know what he is capable of doing and so there is nothing about Dr Bawumia’s candidature that should scare anybody.”
