On Tuesday, October 31, 2023, an Accra court decided that Gifty Gyan’s three children are biologically his children and that Asamoah Gyan, the former captain of the Black Stars, is their father.
A discussion was spurred by the case, which has been in court for the past three years, because of the prominence of the former player, who played for Sunderland and Al Ain and is Africa’s top scorer at a FIFA World Cup.
Asamoah Gyan was ordered by the court to give his ex-wife Gifty Gyan 25,000 Ghana Cedis (GHc25,000) per month in order to support and care for their three children.
This sum did not include the three children’s school fees, travel expenses, or costs associated with receiving medical and dental care.
Gifty has also received Asamoah Gyan’s UK residence in addition to a second four-bedroom house in Ghana.
Gifty has taken over one of Asamoah Gyan’s businesses, a gas station in Prampram, while his former partner will receive a BMW owned by the Black Stars international team.
When the details of the divorce settlement were made public, Asamoah Gyan responded.
Gyan responded to a post on Ameyaw Debrah by writing on his X (previously Twitter) page, which has more than a million followers:
“If I have 10pts and I keep quiet cos I’m matured, and you have 2 pts and you going find public sympathy, then it’s cool. You are very funny. This is deep so think about it.”
