One specific reason, according to former Suhum MP Frederick Opare-Ansah, led Alan Kyeremanten to leave the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He said that the only reason the former minister of trade and industry resigned from the ruling party was because he finished third in the conference of special delegates.
According to Mr. Opare-Ansah, Alan’s resignation was due to his claim of unfairness, but this was all a farce because it was his agents who allegedly started trouble in one of the conference centers.
“From what I heard, he was unhappy about the position he received, but that, in my opinion, shouldn’t have been the way he chose to exit the NPP.”
“I have also listened to what happened, and in fact, the attack was initiated by his agent going out of his way to take on a function that is not his own. For example, if someone shows his ballot, it is not the responsibility of an agent to stop him from putting it in the box; it is a matter for the EC and the police who are there.”
On Monday, September 25, Mr. Kyerematen announced his resignation from the party, citing nepotism within the organization and intimidation of his supporters.
The former flagbearer candidate announced at a press conference in Accra that he would run as an independent in the general elections of 2024.
“Under the circumstances and given the context provided, I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honourably resigning with immediate effect from the New Patriotic Party to contest for the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana in the 2024 General Elections, as an Independent Presidential Candidate.”
Kyerematen underlined his dedication to tackling the nation’s urgent problems, such as social welfare, job creation, and economic development. He claimed that his conviction that running as an independent would allow him to better represent the interests of the Ghanaian people was the main factor in his decision to do so.
