Last Saturday, after a special joint operation that resulted in the recovery of weapons used in a recent attack by an enraged youth in the town, the Ministry of National Security and the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) brought peace back to Garu in the Upper East Region.
The operation also resulted in the arrest of the perpetrators of the violent attack on a few security officers who had been called in to put an end to the disturbances.
“The meticulously executed operation proved highly successful as the threats in Garu were effectively neutralised”.
“The perpetrators responsible for the aggression were captured, and the weapons used in the attack were retrieved.
Through these decisive actions, peace has been successfully restored to the area,” sources at the National Security Ministry disclosed.
The sources applauded the national security apparatus for putting down the angry youth’s uprising in Garu, Upper East Region, last week, thereby demonstrating the agency’s readiness to prevent terrorism in the nation.
The quick action was in response to an attack on a team of security officers that the Ministry of National Security had sent out for a crucial counter terrorism operation. The attackers were a group of young men armed with machetes, AK-47 rifles, and other weapons.
After the armed men identified themselves as security personnel and started shooting at the officers, the situation turned violent, forcing the officers to take cover at the Garu Police Station.
The attackers continued to surround the station and stepped up their attack.
Nonetheless, the National Security personnel were evacuated as a result of the Ghana Armed Forces’ (GAF) prompt intervention.
“The joint operation is a testament to Ghana’s robust security architecture, highlighting its rapid responsiveness and steadfast dedication to preserving stability.
“It also serves as an assurance from the government that stringent measures will be implemented to ensure the safety of security personnel and the populace, while maintaining the rule of law,” the sources added.
According to the sources, the security apparatus acknowledged the seriousness of the youth group’s attack and categorically denounced any actions meant to threaten or hurt security and intelligence personnel.
“Such actions significantly hinder the agencies’ pivotal role in ensuring the peace and stability of Ghana,” they stressed.
The sources reiterated the ministry’s commitment to encouraging citizen participation in maintaining national peace and stability, while also sharply denouncing intentional actions that endanger the lives of security personnel.
