Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has disclosed that long-term relief measures for the victims affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage will be considered in the upcoming 2024 budget.
Ofori-Atta stated that additional support will be provided and allocated in the upcoming year’s budget, despite the fact that the government has already helped the victims after touring the affected areas and interacting with media. He underlined that the government is paying attention to the actual needs of the impacted communities in addition to statistics.
“We have mobilized a few things that we would like to share but I think we are also in the budget season and therefore it will not just be numbers that we are working on but true feelings in the field and therefore the need to look at these social interventions in a real way. We will certainly give this an expression immediately and also in the budget,”

In addition, he gave GHS2 million to the district chief executive, Divine Osborne Fenu, at the North Tongu District Assembly in Mepe to help the flood victims caused by the Akosombo Dam spillage.
The Finance Minister thanked Ghanaians for their impromptu reaction to the situation and conveyed the Ministry of Finance’s concern for the impacted individuals.
Water levels have begun to drop, according to a previous report from Seji Saji Amedonu, Deputy Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), who also predicted that, at the current rate of decline, it will take roughly one week for the water levels to completely recede.
