The Ghana Police Service has been given complete command over security during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) November 4 presidential primary.
Professor Aaron Mike Ocquaye, the Chairman of the NPP’s Presidential Election Committee, claims that anyone attempting to taint the elections will be dealt with by the police.
During a stakeholder meeting in Accra with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Prof. Ocquaye stated that they anticipate peaceful elections.
“We are authorising you to take absolute control of all the processes that you regulate during normal elections in this republic. We have made a number of guidelines which are a matter of common consent and we have worked out the dynamics in such a way that we are working together and we are saying this to assure you that the regulations that the candidates have all signed are going to be the blueprint of the process, and anyone who disregards this should be dealt with and we want to establish that this country is a lawful nation.”

In the meantime, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police, issued a request for collaboration to guarantee the conscientious performance of their responsibilities.
“We want to assure you that on November 4, we are going to give you an overdose of security and it will be excellent and awesome and all we require from you is your support to ensure that the police will do their work.”
On Saturday, November 4, the New Patriotic Party will hold its presidential election. Four candidates are running to be the flagbearer.
The four are Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president; Kennedy Agyapong, the member of parliament for Assin Central; Dr. Owusu Afriyie-Akoto, the former minister of agriculture; and Thomas Addai Nimoh, a prominent figure in the New Patriotic Party.
