Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Madam Freda Prempeh has replied her critics that she attempted to shift blame on the Volta flood victims following the Aksombo dam spillage citing their refusal to heed to warnings and evacuate.
Speaking to the media in a video sighted on UTV X page, the Sanitation Minister claimed that her statements have been misunderstood.
According to the Sanitation Minister, she was just emphasizing on the fact Ghanaians must heed to instructions to avoid any unforeseen disaster.
Madam Freda Prempeh refuted criticisms that her comments that the victims were affected by Akosombo dam spillage because they refused to leave when they were warned by Volta River Authority (VRA).
“I never said that, I want to put it on record that I was emphasizing on education circulation exercise by VRA to the residents. So Ghanaians should not take my comments out of context. I am also a journalist just like you, I know how to communicate, so I wouldn’t say anything at this time to add more pains to the victims who have already lost their properties and livelihoods,” the Sanitation Minister said.
She stressed that she was emphasizing on the fact that people should heed to instructions and do as they have been instructed in order to escape any disaster.

Relatedly, NDC Communication team member, Bernard Anim Piesie has criticized the Sanitation Minister over her recent comments on victims of the Akosombo dam spillage.
Recently, Freda Prempeh blamed the victims for the destruction following the Akosombo dam spill. She claimed that despite repeated warnings from the Volta River Authority, residents of the affected communities resisted being evacuated.
Speaking during a panel discussion on UTV Adekye Nsroma, Mr. Bernard Piesie said he wasn’t expecting such comments should come from Madam Fred Prempeh.
According him, Madam Prempeh’s insensitive statements are appalling and it added more woes to the pains of the residents in the lower Volta who been affected greatly by the flood disaster.
