Thomas played for the Mississauga Rebels of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) and the Oakville Rangers of the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL). In 2017, Thomas was selected to play for the Canada men’s national under-17 ice hockey team at the 2017 World U-17 Hockey Challenge.
In 2017-18, Thomas played for the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He had a breakout season, scoring 21 goals and adding 33 assists in 67 games. Thomas was named to the OHL All-Rookie Team and was a finalist for the OHL Rookie of the Year award.
In 2018-19, Thomas had another strong season with the Knights. He scored 50 goals and added 42 assists in 67 games.
Thomas was drafted by the Senators in the second round, 47th overall, of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. He signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Senators in July 2019. Thomas made his NHL debut on October 13, 2020, against the Toronto Maple Leafs. He scored his first NHL goal on October 18, 2020, against the Montreal Canadiens.
