Ghanaians have been urged to disregard the rumor that the government plans to sell the National Investment Bank by Majority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh.
He said that well-meaning Ghanaians should brush off the false accusation made by the Minority in Parliament.
The Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri stated that the Minority should quit spreading misinformation about the bank during a press conference in Accra.
He vehemently refuted the allegations, saying, “This is a lie being put out. I’ve not heard anywhere that there’s going to be any sell-off. If there’s going to be any sell-off, I’m not aware of that.”
Mr. Annoh-Dompreh stressed the importance of stopping the spread of false information as he expressed his concern about unfounded rumors harming the bank’s reputation. If the Minority thought there were evil intentions behind the purported merger, he challenged them to prove it.

“My concern is that if we are not careful, we will run down the bank. No financial institution is run with propaganda; it will not succeed. They should be a bit more patriotic,” he added.
Mr. Annoh-Dompreh recommended that instead of making unsubstantiated claims, the Minority should have contacted the Managing Director of NIB for clarification if they had any concerns. He restated that selling off the bank was not part of any secret plan.
Members of the finance committee from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had expressed worries about possible job losses in the event that the government moved forward with plans to combine or disband NIB with the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB).
Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson claimed at a press conference on September 28, 2023, that the government has been attempting to combine the two state-owned banks, a move they felt would increase the nation’s unemployment rate.
