The State Transport Company’s chief executive officer, Nana Akomea, has urged NPP delegates to select Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as their flagbearer.

He asserted that the only contender capable of uniting the governing party’s forces is the vice president.

He pointed out that the New Patriotic Party has been accused by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by Mr. Mahama, of being a party that is opposed to selecting a Northerner to lead them, but he challenged the delegates to refute their claims.

“Dr. Bawumia will make that propaganda useless,” Nana Akomea was adamant that the true showdown would be a contest pitting Bawumia against Mahama.

“Bawumia against John Mahama, one on one, a real showdown…showdown number 2!”, he exclaimed.

Former President John Mahama's response from the managing director of the State Transport Corporation (STC), Nana Akomea, claimed that politics had damaged Mahama's sharp mind.

Additionally, the STC CEO stated that supporting Bawumia “will change branding of the party. It will give the party a new face”.

“He will also make the party more inclusive,” he also stressed.

On Saturday, November 4, the New Patriotic Party will hold its presidential election. Four candidates are running to be the flagbearer.

The four are Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president; Kennedy Agyapong, the member of parliament for Assin Central; Dr. Owusu Afriyie-Akoto, the former minister of agriculture; and Thomas Addai Nimoh, a prominent figure in the New Patriotic Party.

Relatedly, ahead of the party’s flagbearer contest next month, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has denounced the personal attacks occurring within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Dr. Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong‘s recent allegations that he bought off constituency chairmen at the super delegates conference are untrue.

On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, Bawumia informed the delegates in the Tatale-Sanguli constituency in the Northern Region that he was hearing a single falsehood about himself or his stance on issues every day.

“I am hearing a different lie everyday as I am sitting down and watching what they are saying,” he claimed that the opponents, who remained anonymous, were determined to sow division among the NPP’s grassroots members.
