Ahead of the party’s flagbearer contest next month, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has denounced the personal attacks occurring within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to Dr. Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong‘s recent allegations that he bought off constituency chairmen at the super delegates conference are untrue.
On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, Bawumia informed the delegates in the Tatale-Sanguli constituency in the Northern Region that he was hearing a single falsehood about himself or his stance on issues every day.
“I am hearing a different lie everyday as I am sitting down and watching what they are saying,” he claimed that the opponents, who remained anonymous, were determined to sow division among the NPP’s grassroots members.
He addressed three lies that he said had surfaced recently. First, he addressed Kennedy Agyapong‘s allegation that the vice presidential candidate’s campaign purchased the votes of some super delegates with pickup trucks and 100,000 cedis.

“They say I have given all constituency chairmen, 275 constituency chairmen a hundred thousand cedis (GHc100,000.00), and a pick-up. Have you seen any pick-up here for your chairman? This is just a ridiculous lie” Vice-President Bawumia added.
In response to the claim that he is against the electoral college being expanded, Bawumia said that this could not be further from the reality.
“How can this happen? It is not possible for me to stop polling station executives and electoral area coordinators from voting. This was a national conference decision and I was very supportive of expanding the electoral college to allow polling station executives and electoral area coordinators to vote and by the grace of God, they will continue to vote,” he stated.
His final concern was the widely circulated belief that current members of parliament favor allowing incumbents to run unopposed in the 2024 elections.
