Michael Cheika is a Lebanese-Australian rugby union coach who is currently the head coach of the Argentina national team. He is also widely regarded as one of the most successful coaches in the world, having led the New South Wales Waratahs to two Super Rugby titles (2014, 2015) and also the Australia national team to the Rugby World Cup final in 2015.
Cheika was born in Sydney, Australia, in 1967. He is also of Lebanese descent, and his parents emigrated to Australia from Lebanon in the 1950s. He played rugby union as a flanker for Randwick and Sydney University, and he also represented Australia at the Under-21 level.
Cheika also began his coaching career in 1999 with Randwick. Cheika was appointed head coach of Australia in 2014, and he also led them to the Rugby World Cup final in 2015. He resigned as head coach of Australia in 2019.
Cheika was also appointed head coach of Argentina in 2020. He also led them to the Rugby Championship title in 2021.
