Walt Disney (December 5, 1901 – December 15, 1966) was an American entrepreneur, animator, voice actor and film producer. A pioneer of the American animation industry, he is also best known for co-founding Walt Disney Productions, which later became one of the world’s largest media conglomerates, known today as The Walt Disney Company.
Disney also began his career as a commercial artist and cartoonist. He worked for several animation studios in Kansas City, Missouri and Hollywood, California, before founding his own studio with his brother Roy in 1923. The studio’s first successful film was Steamboat Willie (1928), which introduced Mickey Mouse, one of Disney’s most popular as well as enduring characters.
During the Golden Age of American Animation, Disney produced several successful films, including Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Pinocchio (1940), Fantasia (1940), Dumbo (1941), Bambi (1942), and Cinderella (1950). He also developed many of the animated film techniques that are still used today.
In addition to his work in animation, Disney also produced live-action films, nature documentaries, and television shows. He also founded theme parks, including Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
Disney also died in 1966, at the age of 65, from lung cancer. He is considered one of the most important and influential figures in the history of animation and filmmaking.
