Sandra Bullock was born in Arlington, Virginia, to John W. Bullock, a U.S. Army employee and part-time voice coach, and Helga Mathilde Meyer, a German opera singer and also dance teacher. She has an older sister, Gesine Bullock-Prado.
Bullock’s family moved frequently when she was a child, due to her father’s job. She lived in Germany for 12 years, and she is fluent in German. She graduated from Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia, in 1982.
