Kennedy Agyapong, the MP for Assin Central and prospective flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has pleaded with party delegates in the Western Region not to follow the recommendations of dishonest party officials when making their selections in the upcoming primaries.
At a rally in Takoradi to wrap up his Health Walk event, he made this appeal.
In addition to claiming that some NPP leaders in the Western Region sabotaged his campaign at the Super Delegates’ conference, where he did poorly, Agyapong also claimed that some NPP leaders are unable to criticize the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) because of their own involvement in corrupt practices.
At the rally, Kennedy Agyapong spoke to his supporters and urged them not to elect candidates who might push their party into the opposition.
The NPP has set November 4 as the date for the selection of the torchbearer for the party in the general elections of 2024.
Kennedy Agyapong is competing against opponents like Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president, Francis Addai-Nimoh, a former member of parliament for Mampong, and Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, a former minister of agriculture.
Guidelines for the November 4 primaries, which will take place in all 276 constituencies across the nation, including the Party Headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra, have been released by the party’s Presidential Elections Committee.
On November 4, more than 200,000 NPP delegates are anticipated to vote to choose the party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 election.
Meanwhile, the NDC leadership has denounced the assault on Citi FM journalist Akosua Otchere on Friday, October 13, 2023, by a group of people who stormed the grounds of the vetting ground at Odododiodio, causing mayhem and assaulting a journalist in the process.
In a statement signed by Sammy Gyamfi, the national chairman of the party, the party apologizes to Akosua Otchere of CITI TV and all those impacted by the regrettable incident, expressing regret for any inconvenience caused.
