Biography
Cundy was born on March 4, 1975, in Derby, England. He was born with a congenital arm deficiency, which meant that he had no left arm below the elbow. Despite his disability, Cundy was determined to participate in sport. He started cycling at a young age and quickly showed his talent.
In 1990, Cundy made his Paralympic debut at the age of 15. He competed in both cycling and track and field events. He won his first Paralympic medal, a bronze medal in the 100m track event, at the 1992 Summer Paralympics.
Cundy went on to compete in five more Paralympic Games, winning a total of 23 medals, including 14 gold medals. He is the most successful British Paralympic cyclist of all time and the second most successful British Paralympian of all time, behind only David Weir.
Cundy’s Paralympic achievements include:
- Gold medals in the 1km time trial (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020), C4-5 road race (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020), and team sprint (2012, 2016, 2020)
- Silver medals in the 5km individual pursuit (2000, 2004), 3km individual pursuit (2008), and team sprint (2008)
