The implementation of a waiver for ordinary passport holders’ visa exemptions has been agreed upon by Ghana and South Africa.

The waiver is valid for a total of 90 days annually. On November 1, 2023, the implementation will begin.

On Friday, October 13, the South African High Commission in Accra released a statement, “The High Commission of the Republic of South Africa has the honor to inform the Republic of Ghana that both governments agreed to implement the waiver for visa exemptions for ordinary passport holders for a cumulative period of 90 days per annum with effect from November 1, 2023.

“Should the 90 days be exhausted within the twelve-month period ordinary passport holders are required to apply for a visa to enter the Republic of South Africa? ”

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration added that ”the Republic of Ghana and the Republic of South Africa have entered into an agreement on a visa waiver regime for holders of ordinary passports. The agreement takes effect from November 1, 2023.”

The Ministry added that visitors may “transit through, depart from and stay in the territory of both countries for a cumulative period of up to 90 days without recourse to work.”

The Ministry added that the traveling public is hereby advised to be aware of this development.

In September, the South African embassy added Ghana to the E-Visa list, allowing its citizens to apply for a visa online.

According to a statement made public on Thursday, September 28, 2023, by Grace Jeanet Mason, the High Commissioner of South Africa to Ghana, Ghana has been added to the list of nations for which E-Visas are offered.

The VFS Global Office is now the place where people who had their passports withheld for more than three months due to this modification can pick them up, according to a formal statement issued by the South African High Commission on September 28.
