Sam Nartey George, a member of parliament for Ningo Prampram, recently called vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia a “chew-and-pour economist” in an interview on Berla Mundi’s Day Show.
Sam George argued that Bawumia lacks a thorough understanding of Ghana’s actual economic dynamics and heavily relies on economic theories and rote learning.
He stated, “Individuals like Bawumia don’t grasp that our economy isn’t solely textbook-based; all they do is chew and pour. Bawumia is a chew-and-pour economist.”
Without demonstrating a practical understanding of Ghana’s economic difficulties, George charged the Vice President with reciting abstract economic theories.
Sam George stressed the need for a more practical and hands-on approach to economic management while expressing his displeasure with Bawumia’s leadership of the Economic Management Team.
“When you’re going in circles, you might think you’re making progress, but ultimately, you come back to the same point,“ he remarked.
Sam George also asserted that the current administration had eroded the economic progress made under former President John Dramani Mahama‘s watch.
Using alleged targeted violence against Alan Kyeremanteng’s supporters as evidence that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had resorted to strategies other than policy-based arguments, he claimed that the party lacked a significant track record to justify reelection.
Meanwhile, a member of the ruling New Patriotic Party Communication team, Kofi Tonto has defended the Government’s management of the economy.
On Saturday, during an interview on Citi TV’s The Big Issue in Accra, Mr. Kofi Tonto said the positive signs of recovery is as a result of Government’s deliberate efforts to cushion Ghanaians.
The government spokesperson cited the 30% discretionary cuts in the mid-year budget as part of Government’s effort to stabilize the economy.
Kofi Tonto added that the NDC and Ghanaians kicked against E-levy and other revenue measures the NPP government brought up to help boost the economy.
