In response to Dr. Ernest Addison, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, responding to the #OccupyBoG demonstration, the Minority Caucus in Parliament has threatened to show him “what hooligans do.”

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its supporters organized the demonstration, which took place on Tuesday, October 3, to express their opposition to the nation’s economic crisis.

The demonstrators demanded Dr. Addison’s resignation and accused him of poor leadership and incompetence.

Dr. Addison called the demonstrators “hooligans” in response to the protest and added that neither he nor his deputies would resign.

Dr. Addison called the NDC protest “completely unnecessary” in an interview with the global business website Central Banking.

“The Minority in parliament have many channels to channel their grievances in civilized societies, not through demonstrations in the streets as hooligans,” Addison added in reference to the #OccupyBoG Protest.

However, on Thursday, October 5, Mahama Ayariga, the member of parliament for Bawku Central, denounced Addison’s response and charged him with being conceited and disrespectful to the NDC leadership and the Minority.

He believes that Dr. Addison’s disrespectful response is an obvious expression of frustration on the part of a governor who is ill-equipped to effectively run the Central Bank’s operations.

“He says we are hooligans, so we will show him what hooligans do,” Ayariga told host Bernard Avle.

He added “I, Mahama Ayariga, I am saying that he will see what hooligans do, I don’t know what my colleagues [Minority MPs] will think but when we meet we will discuss and let you know. But I’m sure that having called us hooligans, he will get a response of hooligans.”

The minority group will consult with NDC leadership to determine the next course of action to hold the governor accountable for his “incompetence,” the Bawku Central MP added.
