Felix Owusu-Adjapong, a former majority leader who served as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) representative for Akyem Swedru in the Eastern Region, passed away at the age of 79.

On October 4, 2023, Majority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh posted on social media to confirm the sad news and to offer his condolences and tribute to Owusu-Adjapong.

His death’s circumstances, however, are still unknown.

Felix Owusu-Adjapong, who was born on February 13, 1944, had a illustrious political career, serving in Ghana’s second, third, and fourth parliaments.

In the general elections of 1996, he won 45.30% of the valid votes cast, becoming the first representative for Akyem Swedru.

With 56.80% of the vote, he was re-elected in the 2000 general elections in Ghana. He later served as a minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Transport, and Communications.

He was once again chosen as a Member of Parliament in the general elections of 2004 with a significant majority vote of 66.94%.

Felix Owusu-Adjapong left his ministerial position and attempted to win the NPP’s presidential nomination in 2007, but was unsuccessful.

The news of his passing been added the list of celebrated figures who have passed within the last few days.

First, former first lady and wife of former president John Agyekum Kufuor, Mrs. Theresa Kufuor (88) was reported dead on Sunday.

The former First Lady, who was married to former President J.A. Kufuor from 2001 to 2009, was a pillar of support for him, the Presidency said in an official statement issued on Monday in Accra.

Then, Monday, Ghanaians were hit with another sad news while still mourning the death of Mrs. Theresa Kufuor.

Former NDC MP for Ningo Prampram and Sports Minister, Enoch Teye Mensah (ET), was also confirmed dead at aged 77.

He had been unwell for some time and, according to reports, passed away in South Africa.

Mr. Mensah was well-known in Ghanaian politics and held the positions of Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for the Ningo-Prampram constituency for more than 20 years.
