Kennedy Agyapong’s criticisms have been addressed by Bernard Antwi Bosiako, Chairman Wontumi of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti regional committee.

Chairman Wontumi claims that he will allow the police to arrest the flagbearer candidate if he attacks him again regarding any of his platform claims.

Kennedy Agyapong, according to Mr. Bosiako, is known for making threats and following through on them, as he stated during a press conference in Kumasi.

”Those terms like showdown and the others should cease. If not, if you threaten me again I will get you arrested,”Chairman Wontumi said.

“It’s an advise I’m giving you because this same thing you did and Ahmed Suale and the likes got killed.”

The Assin Central lawmaker was also advised by the Ashanti Regional Chairman to concentrate his campaign on the things he can accomplish as flagbearer rather than attacking his rivals.

On September 30, 2023, at his Kumasi Showdown walk, Kennedy Agyapong made it clear that he would not take a more conciliatory stance like his former rival, Alan Kyerematen, who recently left the NPP due to intimidation and unfair treatment during the party’s flagbearership race.

Since then, Kyerematen has founded the “Movement For Change,” and he plans to run as an independent in the 2024 presidential election.

Agyapong’s statement, “I’m not like Alan who is gentle, let them try,” was direct and unambiguous.

Additionally, he vowed to follow the “eye for an eye” principle throughout the election, stressing that he would not put up with any bullying or influence-peddling.

Agyapong also revealed that he had received generous financial offers to drop out of the race, including invitations to join Vice President Bawumia’s ticket.

He adamantly declared that he had turned down all of these offers and that he was still steadfastly pursuing the position of NPP flagbearer.

The NPP is preparing for its presidential primary, which Kennedy Agyapong’s warning highlights the high stakes and internal tensions in the party.
