Russ Francis is a retired professional hockey player who is considered to be one of the greatest playmakers of all time. He was also born on May 17, 1958, in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Canada. Francis played for the New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, and also Hartford Whalers during his NHL career. He won the Stanley Cup with the Oilers in 1984 and was named the Conn Smythe Trophy winner as the most valuable player in the playoffs. Francis was also a five-time NHL All-Star and won the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy three times. He retired from the NHL in 1991 and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1995.
