Mrs. Theresa Kufuor, the former First Lady of Ghana, passed away on Sunday at the age of 87 in her home in Peduase on the Aburi Mountain.
The former First Lady, who was married to former President J.A. Kufuor from 2001 to 2009, was a pillar of support for him, the Presidency said in an official statement issued on Monday in Accra.
Ghana’s President Akufo-Addo paid tribute to Mrs. Theresa Kufuor and expressed his sorrow over her passing.
“Our nation’s former First Lady and wife of the 2nd President of the 4th Republic, His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor.” Her passing reminds me keenly of human mortality, that is that Almighty God will come for each and every one of us at the appropriate time,” he said.
Mama Theresa, as she was known affectionately, was President Kufuor‘s devoted companion for the duration of their 61-year marriage, according to President Akufo-Addo.
“She was a composed and articulate First Lady, polyglot, fluent in several languages, including Ewe, who brought great dignity to the position,” he said.
He claimed that Mrs. Kufuor endured the ups and downs of life with great stoicism and an unwavering faith in the power of Almighty God.
“My wife, Rebecca, the First Lady, and I will miss her a lot. We extend our deepest condolences to President Kufuor, their children, grandchildren, and members of their family on their irreplaceable loss. We wish her a peaceful place of abode in the Bosom of the Almighty, as she deserves, until the Last Day of the Resurrection when we shall all meet again. Amen,” he added.
