The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has been ranked first University in Ghana, West Africa, and 7th in Africa, according to the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings. The latest ranking makes the University of Cape Coast (UCC) the best in Ghana.
The annual Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings (WUR) is the most prestigious global University rankings league table to judge research-intensive Universities.
Based on five core areas: Teaching, Research, Citation Impact, International Outlook as well as Industry Income, the UCC came top among other universities in the sub-region
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Johnson Nyarko Boampong, who announced the results of the latest THE rankings to the media, praised the University Council, management, staff, students and stakeholders for their contributions in achieving this enviable milestone.
“This feat is still unprecedented in the history of any University in Ghana. With this exceptional performance, the University of Cape Coast still remains the only University in Ghana which has achieved this position in West Africa and Africa” Prof Nyarko Boampong stated.
Prof Nyarko Boampong urged all stakeholders to continue to work hard to ensure that UCC maintains its vision of being a Global University that is strongly positioned for innovative teaching, research, outreach and professional development.
He again announced that the University also maintained its position as one of the leading research-intensive Universities globally.
Prof Nyarko Boampong stated that the rankings are also used by faculty to inform career decisions by university leaders to help set strategic priorities, and by governments to help monitor policy formulation and implementation.
“We will work to increase the proportion of graduate students and attract more research grants to increase the research income to make resources available for the provision of state-of-the-art facilities for teaching and research”.
“By this feat, UCC has also demonstrated its contribution to higher education and impact of its scholarly research in Ghana, Africa and globally,” Prof Nyarko Boampong revealed.
