According to Las Vegas police, Duane Keith “Keffe D” Davis has been detained in connection with the 1996 shooting death of rapper Tupac Shakur.
On Friday morning in Las Vegas, Davis, who is now 60 years old, was taken into custody.
Tupac Shakur, who was 25 years old at the time, was shot four times before he was killed as he left a boxing match on the Las Vegas Strip. He died six days later.
Two months have passed since the police raid on Davis’s wife’s Henderson home on July 17.
Authorities described Davis as the alleged mastermind of a plot to murder Tupac Shakur in order to exact revenge on someone who had attacked his nephew during a news conference on Friday. In interviews and in his 2019 autobiography, “Compton Street Legend,” Davis has acknowledged that he was in the front seat of the white Cadillac when shots were fired from the back seat, killing the musician.
As one of the four initial suspects in the case, Duane “Keffe D” Davis had long been the subject of scrutiny by the investigators.
In addition, the grand jury decided to include a sentencing enhancement for gang activity, which could increase his sentence by up to 20 years if found guilty.
The rapper’s sister Sekyiwa “Set” Shakur gave her opinion on the arrest in a statement on Friday, calling it a significant event.
She emphasized the significance of acknowledging Tupac Shakur’s impact on their community and demanded recognition from the international community, the nation, the legal system, and their people in order to emphasize the seriousness of her brother’s loss.
“This is no doubt a pivotal moment. The silence of the past 27 years surrounding this case has spoken loudly in our community,” she said. “It’s important to me that the world, the country, the justice system, and our people acknowledge the gravity of the passing of this man, my brother, my mother’s son, my father’s son.”
