Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia cannot be the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer in the general elections of 2024, according to Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a candidate for the position.
He claimed that the Vice President cannot defeat John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), according to party leaders.
On September 24, 2023, he voiced his concerns about the internal politics that frequently resulted in escalating violence during an interview with US-based Kings Radio.
He bemoaned the rising prevalence of violence during party elections, pointing out that some NPP members become more aggressive during these contests.
Seven Ashanti Regional MPs, according to the member of parliament for Assin Central, were allegedly promised the vice presidential position by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, another candidate for the position of flagbearer.

If Bawumia were to become the party’s flag bearer, the NPP would probably face opposition. He stressed his determination to oppose any actions that might force the NPP into opposition as he argued that the party should steer clear of such a scenario.
He continued, “What they are doing in the Ashanti region, 47 MPs have been intimidated, all because of one vice president position. They have promised 7 of the Ashanti regional MPs for the vice president’s slots, and they are pushing everybody because they want the vice president position.”
He added: “One vice president, 17 people are contesting for the slot and because of that they have been blinded, they know they will lose, because how can the vice president beat Mahama?
“It is not possible upon all his utterances. Yet, because of greed and selfishness they want us to go into opposition and I will resist that, I won’t allow us go into opposition.”
Kennedy will compete for the position of flagbearer alongside Dr. Bawumia, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh.
