The South African embassy in Ghana is no longer necessary as Ghana has been added to the E-Visa list, allowing its citizens to apply for a visa online.

According to a statement made public on Thursday, September 28, 2023, by Grace Jeanet Mason, the High Commissioner of South Africa to Ghana, Ghana has been added to the list of nations for which E-Visas are offered.

The VFS Global Office is now the place where people who had their passports withheld for more than three months due to this modification can pick them up, according to a formal statement issued by the South African High Commission on September 28.

“The Republic of South Africa’s High Commission would like to notify you that Ghana has been added to the E-Visa list by the Government of the Republic of South Africa. This implies that Ghanaians can apply online for South African visas without physically visiting the High Commission.

The information is available on the Department of Home Affairs website for the Republic of South Africa. According to the announcement, Ghanaians are urged to visit www.dha.gov.za for more information.

Please be aware that the usual documents—passport information, an invitation letter or other proof of lodging, and a bank statement—will be examined when you arrive at the point of entry.

Passports held by the High Commission for more than three months could be picked up at the VFS Global Office, according to the statement’s additional language.

In other news, the marking of the recently completed Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) may be in jeopardy due to unpaid dues totaling GHC33 million, according to the West African Examination Council (WAEC).

Peter Nutsu Kortoe, the ranking member of Parliament’s Education Committee, warned that the financial crisis could seriously affect WAEC’s operations and delay the release of exam results.

Speaking to the media yesterday, Kortoe emphasized that the Ghanaian government’s failure to timely fund WAEC over the previous three years has reached a crucial turning point.
