Charles Nii Armah Mensah, better known by his stage name Shatta Wale, has responded to a letter from Sammy Flex, a member of his management team, regarding the cancellation of his Freedom Wave Concert at the Accra Sports Stadium this year.
Sammy Flex pleaded with the dancehall star to think about postponing the event for everyone’s safety in the letter.
Sammy Flex also cited escalating political unrest and the venue being given to another performer as reasons to look into other possibilities. He expressed worry that these aspects might interfere with the event and annoy Shatta Wale’s team and supporters.
Wale replied to Flex by sharing the letter on Facebook and saying he would follow the advice and “leave the rest for the fans to discuss.”
Flex continued by stating the following reasons why the 2023 Freedom Wave Concert should not be held at the Accra Sports Stadium: “Political tensions have been rising, and the authorities have recently allocated the venue to another musician, a move that seems designed to disrupt your show and cause discomfort to your team and fans.”
He also concurred with his manager that he was the target of a cunning scheme. He gave this a reason, saying,
He claimed that his father had recently sent him a video, and Flex’s letter supports what was said in the video, “I have been a target in this country because of [I am] outspoken and [I am] confidently saying things the way they should be said in a country like Ghana”.
Working with Sammy Flex, he claimed, had caused “changes in myself and my spirituality.”
The uplifting message on which the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and record producer concluded his post was “Better days ahead.”
The Freedom Wave concert by Shatta Wale is scheduled to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium from December 20–25, as previously announced.
Days later, Stonebwoy revealed plans for his yearly December 22 concert at the same location.
This development has caused confusion because, according to Shatta, he has been asked to reschedule for next year even though he was the first to announce and reserve the stadium for his five-day event.
