Former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyeremanten has announced his immediate exit from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In the most recent super delegates congress, he claimed that the party had not treated him fairly.
The former flagbearer candidate announced at a press conference in Accra that he would run as an independent in the general elections of 2024.
“Under the circumstances and given the context provided, I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honourably resigning with immediate effect from the New Patriotic Party to contest for the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana in the 2024 General Elections, as an Independent Presidential Candidate.”

Kyeremateng reaffirmed his commitment to tackling the nation’s urgent problems, such as social welfare, economic development, and job creation. He claimed that his choice to run as an independent was motivated by his conviction that using this strategy would enable him to more effectively advance the interests of the Ghanaian people.
His independent campaign poses a special challenge to Ghana’s established political system and has the potential to change the political landscape.
On Tuesday, September 5, Mr. Alan Kyeremanten declared his withdrawal from the second round of the presidential race, citing electoral irregularities, unfair treatment, and bias during the shockingly third-place finish at the super delegates’ conference.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reminded party members that the November 4 presidential primaries are for choosing a candidate who will represent the party in the legislature in 2024.
In that regard, he urged the delegates to support him heavily as the party’s next leader, pointing out that he was the most qualified and well-known of all the candidates.
The Vice President expressed confidence that the NPP would form the next government in 2025 and carry on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo‘s progressive policies with him running for president.
