Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has said he is confident the opposition party will defeat the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to form the next government on January 7, 2025.

On Saturday, September 16, 2023, the former president made this statement in Accra at the NDC Greater Accra Regional Zongo Caucus Stakeholders Forum.

Mr. Mahama urged Ghanaians who just turned 18years and above and those who have lost their voter’s ID card to take advantage of the current ongoing limited voter registration across the country in order to be eligible to vote during the 2024 general elections.

“I want to urge all of you to encourage all those who have not registered to come out and register. If they are 18years and above and haven’t registered let them go and register. And if you have registered but have lost your card, this is the time to replace it,” he said.

He added that Ghana is a country of diversity due to the various ethic groups which make up the nation.

“Everybody in this country came from somewhere, we all migrated and came. In the night of 6th March, 1957, when Kwame Nkrumah made the declaration, he said everybody within the boarders of Ghana at 12:00 of 6th March is a Ghanaian. And so we must take note of this history,” he said.

Mahama urged them to insist on their nationality because it is their right.

“We are hoping and wishing by the grace of Allah, and I can see the sign that InshAllah 7th January, 2025, NDC will form the next government,” Mr. Mahama said.

Relatedly, Mahama has pledged to finish all projects.

He declared that he would not halt any project begun by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo‘s administration.

He claimed that the NDC was a patriotic, well-intentioned political party that valued continuity and was committed to protecting taxpayers’ money.
