John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for president in 2024, has pledged to finish all projects.
He declared that he would not halt any project begun by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo‘s administration.
He claimed that the NDC was a patriotic, well-intentioned political party that valued continuity and was committed to protecting taxpayers’ money.
“I’m making a promise that when we come, we will continue all abandoned projects.
Even projects that this current NPP government does not finish, we will continue and finish because they are funded by taxpayers’ money, so when you abandon them, you’re wasting the money of Ghanaians,” he said.
On Saturday, September 16, 2023, the former president made this statement in Accra at the NDC Greater Accra Regional Zongo Caucus Stakeholders Forum.
In order to foster social connections and a sense of community, the forum brought together representatives of various Zongo and Muslim sects and institutions from both inside and outside the party to share their experiences and talk about issues that interested both groups.
Sheikh Usmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, the National Chief Imam, was a prominent figure at the forum.
After charging the current administration with failing to finish important projects his party started before leaving office in 2016, particularly in Zongo communities, Mr. Mahama made the pledge.
“When we were sharing the E-Blocks, several of them were allocated to the Zongo and Muslim communities but many of those schools have been abandoned. We have done a lot in our Zongos but we are not the type who come with a paper and read. Our people can see for themselves the work the NDC did when we were in office,” he stressed.
The enormous support that the Zongo communities and the Islamic fraternity have given to his party over the years was acknowledged by Mr. Mahama, who promised to never take it for granted.
