Biography
Travis Hunter Jr. was born on May 18, 2003, in West Palm Beach, Florida. He grew up in Suwanee, Georgia, where he attended Collins Hill High School. He was a two-sport star in high school, excelling in both football and basketball. On the football field, he was a consensus five-star recruit and the top-ranked cornerback in the country. He was also a two-time Georgia Gatorade Football Player of the Year.
Hunter’s high school career was legendary. He set the Georgia state record for career receiving touchdowns with 48. He also had 29 career interceptions, 204 tackles, and 10 forced fumbles.
After high school, Hunter committed to Jackson State, an FCS school in Jackson, Mississippi. His commitment made headlines, as he was the highest-ranked prospect to ever commit to an HBCU or FCS program.
Hunter played both cornerback and wide receiver for the Tigers in 2022. He finished his freshman season with 20 tackles, 10 pass breakups, and two interceptions on defense. He also caught 26 passes for 399 yards and five touchdowns on offense.
Hunter’s performance in his freshman season lived up to the hype. He was named the SWAC Freshman of the Year and a second-team All-SWAC selection. He was also a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award, given to the top freshman player in FCS football.
In the offseason, Hunter transferred to the University of Colorado. He will play for the Colorado Buffaloes in the 2023 season.
