The MADINA Member of Parliament (MP), Hon Francis-Xavier Kojo Sosu has poured out his frustration on the Electoral Commission (EC) over the current ongoing Limited Voter Registration exercise across the country.

Speaking to the media at one of the registration centers in Madina, Francis-Xavier Kojo Sosu said he was not happy with the way EC has been handling the whole registration process.

Mr. Kojo Sosu alleged that the EC is using a deliberate means to suppress votes in order to favor the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), who are seeking to break the ‘8’.

He also claimed that the system put in place to give Ghanaians who just turned 18years or those who couldn’t register in the previous one the opportunity to get the voter’s ID card have rather been denied.

The Madina MP asserted that Ghanaians are fed up with the NPP government and are ready to kick them out in 2024 polls but the government has also devised EC to suppress their vote.

“The foundation of every democracy is elections. The foundation of every democracy is to demand accountability from leadership by way of expressing your view every four years. If the system denies first timers from registering then it raises a lot of concern,” he lamented.

“People are angry because of the economic hardships in the country. Everybody is ready to register so that we can vote out this government. But if the government wants to use the EC as a tool to suppress our votes then the EC must be warned.

“We want to use this medium to send a very clear signal to the EC and government. What the EC is doing we believe is part of the grand agenda by the NPP administration as part of breaking the ‘8’ agenda to suppress votes in where they think are strongholds of the NDC and we’ll not allow that to happen. We’ll ensure that our people register, if they do anything at all to frustrate our people, then we’ll let our frustration on them,” he said.

Relatively, former president  John Dramani Mahama is visiting some voting locations in the Greater Accra Region.

The country’s current limited voter registration will be observed by the former president.

Before visiting the district offices in Adenta, La, and Tema, he will first stop by the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) headquarters.

The limited voter registration period started on September 12 and was supposed to end on October 2 (Monday).

The NDC, as well as other political parties and civil society organizations, opposed the EC’s decision to have it done only in districts rather than electoral areas, which led to resistance when it first began.
