Four fishermen are still missing, according to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in Ada, after two fishing boats capsized in the estuary on September 14 as they attempted to enter the Volta River.

While a search team continues to look for the four missing fishermen, NADMO reports that 15 of the fishermen have been saved.

In total, 19 fishermen were aboard the two boats, Shalorm and Barcelona, when they capsized, according to Ebenezer Dan-Doe, Public Relations Officer for the Ada East NADMO.

“These two fishing boats went fishing and they were coming back when they met a tidal wave and the two boats capsized,” Dan-Doe said. “The name of the first boat is Shalorm and we got to know that there were eleven people on board. We have seen ten and one is missing. We have also seen the boat, which is damaged.”

“With the issue of the second boat, we got to know that eight were on board. Two have been found and six are missing. NADMO, the Navy, and the community search team are still searching for the missing fishermen.”

In other news, the Akuapem South Municipal Security Council has detained an alleged Custom Excise and Preventive Service officer named Daniel Adjei and his accomplice John Annan after they invaded the community of Asuafum in the Eastern region, a suburb of Aburi, and destroyed the only 12-seat KVIP public restroom.

On Wednesday, September 13, 2023, the suspect and his accomplices reportedly stormed the neighborhood with bulldozers and tore down the toilet facility that the assembly had constructed, leaving the locals without a restroom.

“The customs officer and land guards stormed the community to demolish the toilet facility built by the assembly. The residents attempted to resist them but the land guards were armed with guns and other dangerous weapons, so the residents couldn’t make progress to stop them. However, they were happy the security intervened to arrest them,” Assemblyman Daniel Asiamah, who represents the Aburi West electoral district, is quoted on a news website.
