The allegations that Mr. Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the in power New Patriotic Party (NPP), lobbied for his appointment as Inspector General of Police (IGP) have been categorically refuted by Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the IGP.
In addition, he denied being a part of Bugri Naabu’s secret recording plot.
Since the Parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee began its investigation into the leaked tape investigation, there has been a significant increase in public interest.
The IGP vehemently denied allegations that he was a part of a plot to covertly record conversations involving three implicated police officers—COP George Alex Mensah, Superintendent George Asare, Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi—and Bugri Naabu during his appearance before the Committee on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.
The IGP reaffirmed his unwavering dedication to upholding the law and maintaining the credibility of the Ghana Police Service in a firm statement.
He pledged to offer any information or help required to elucidate the circumstances surrounding the tape leak, expressing his full cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
IGP Dampare has refuted claims that his office is delaying promotions for police officers.
He claimed that any police officer who was eligible for promotion had already received it.
Dr. Dampare claimed that since he took office, all necessary promotions have been made when speaking to the parliamentary committee charged with investigating a tape that was leaked about his administration.
In a recent lawsuit, 82 disgruntled police officers claimed that the Attorney General, the Ghana Police Service, and the IGP had acted arbitrarily and unfairly by failing to promote them.
According to the police officers, the study leave with pay policy of the service entitled them to promotions after their studies were finished, but even several months after finishing their studies, they have not yet received a promotion.
