Kwame Gyan, the lawyer of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has objected to presence of other witnesses during his turn to be interrogated by the Parliamentary Committee probing into the leaked tape.

The 7-member ad-hoc committee chaired by Samuel Atta Akyea offered the chance to the IGP to speak amid the ongoing leaked tape brouhaha today.

Appearing before the committee with his lawyer, Kwame Gyan, he raised an issue with the presence of COP Alex Mensah, Superintendent George Asare and Chief Bugri Naabu at the sitting.

According to the IGP, when COP Mensah, Supt. Asare and Bugri Naabu were being interrogated by the 7-member ad-hoc committee, Dampare was made to sit outside during the proceedings but these witnesses have been allowed to sit inside during his turn.

“Our point is way back in August 17, the committee knew they were going to invite the IGP, now the other witnesses four of them, three police officers and a civilian. They came here and gave very wild allegations and just walked freely. The IGP was not invited to be present and today he has been invited and the witnesses who are his accusers have been notice to come and sit in. Mr Chairman it is unfair and unjust for the witnesses who spoke in our absence to come and sit in when we have to speak,” Kwame Gyan said.

IGP Dampare’s lawyer requested the witnesses also sit outside just he did when they had the chance to speak.

Earlier on, in an interview with JoyNews, Hon. Atta Akyea said it was crucial that the IGP be heard.

Lawyer Atta Akyea, the chairman of the committee looking into the IGP tape that was leaked, said the committee’s work was essential to learning more about the topics covered in the tape.

He claims that the new take is over an hour long and that the committee has a longer version of the tape. He revealed this on JoyNews’ The Probe.
