Chief Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), will appear before the parliamentary committee looking into the stolen IGP tape a second time.
The former NPP Chairman was caught on tape plotting with a few police officers to have Dr. Akufo Dampare, the current IGP, fired because he was not acting in the party’s best interests.
A few weeks ago, Chief Bugri Naabu made his first appearance before the committee, speaking about the aforementioned tape and naming the officers who were present for the conversation.
Although the committee released him on the day he appeared before them, information to hand indicates that he will appear again before the committee’s seven members.
According to the information that is available, the committee felt that some statements made by Chief Bugri Naabu were untrue after hearing from the officers who were accused, and as a result, they would need him to return to answer additional questions.
It went on to say that the latest video that was going viral on social media made it necessary to call Daniel Bugri Naabu back.
In the latest video, the politician acknowledges receiving $10,000 per month in exchange for information from the Ghana Police Service.
In the 5:40 minute recording and numerous other clips that have since gone viral on social media, an enraged NPP stalwart can be heard screaming that in response to allegations that he receives GHc10,000 per month from the Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare.
“It is the police who are paying me and not Dampare. I received Ghc10,000 from the police. I don’t know if it is coming from Dampare. They give me that amount for the security work I am doing as a paramount chief and when there is a problem I report to them”, he disclosed.
Given the inconsistencies in his claims and the most recent evidence available to the committee, the traditional ruler would be required to provide clarification on a number of issues he raised during his initial appearance.
