President Akufo-Addo has come under fire from some members of the public for sending his condolences to Morocco in the wake of their recent earthquake on Friday (September 8, 2023).

They contend that the President ought to offer his sympathies to Ghanaians who are presently suffering in the nation.

Kojo Dynamic referred to him as the “funeral announcer and chief mourner” on Twitter and urged him to concentrate on advancing the nation and eradicating corruption.

Kwesi Pino, another Twitter user, made the observation that Ghanaians were dealing with a different kind of catastrophe and that the President ought to address their worries.

Kwesi Pino tweeted: “Your Excellency, extend your deepest condolences to us Ghanaians as well. We are also experiencing another type of disaster here. 🤣”

Berry, another user, criticized the President for hastily tweeting about international events while ignoring domestic problems that demand immediate attention.

Berry tweeted: “You’re fast to tweet about events outside the country but can’t address issues in your own country. Eight people died during the election, and the people of Keita were displaced due to riverbanks crossing their boundaries. People are dying on our roads while you travel on rented jets.”

President Akufo-Addo expressed support for Morocco despite the criticism and urged Ghanaians to pray for the impacted families. He declared,

In the meantime, Morocco has accepted aid from the governments of Britain, Spain, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.

With over 12,000 fatalities, this earthquake in Morocco is the deadliest there has been since 1960.
