Today, September 8, 2023, marks exactly eighteen (18) years of sudden and painful demise of the celebrated young Ghanaian actress, Suzzy Williams, who died in a car accident with her Liberian boyfriend on the La-Nungua Highway in 2005.
The young, talented actress first gained notoriety in the early 2000s for playing naughty, sexy roles in Ghanaian films. Suzzy Williams’ extraordinary talent earned her the moniker “Ghanaian screen goddess.”
She passed away just as she was beginning to gain popularity in Ghana and other African nations, which dealt a severe blow to the Ghanaian film industry.
Her notoriety led Ghana’s Art Centre to decline to allow her remains to lie in state for fear that it wouldn’t be able to accommodate the enormous number of anticipated mourners.
The Suzzy Williams Memorial Fund was started in her honor to help accident victims financially. Nana Ama McBrown was her close friend.
Nana Ama Mcbrown was also involved in a car accident on January 30, 2013, that almost cost her and her husband their lives. She still has a scar on her arm, making it challenging for her to move it freely.
The late Suzzy Williams appeared in films like Bloody Mary, Mother’s Heart, Calamity, Tentacles, and The Comforter.
Ghanaians have posted their warm memories of the late actress on social media in honor of her 18th anniversary.
