Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan has given his seal of approval to Kudus Mohammed as the new Black Stars star man following his impressive perseverance against Central African Republic (CAR).

The Black Stars book their 10th consecutive qualification to the 2024 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a 2-1 victory over the Wild Beasts on Thursday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Through Louis Mafouta, the visitors unexpectedly took the lead, but Mohammed Kudus restored parity late in the first half.

Semenyo, who came on in the second half to fill in for Inaki Williams, had an immediate impact by setting up Ernest Numah to score the game-winning goal.

Gyan praised the West Ham United new signing’s performance, and he was a lively presence during game.

Gyan, who is Ghana’s all-time top scorer, took to Twitter (X), described Mohmmed Kudus as the star man of the Black Stars team.

According to him, Kudus was more composed and released the balls right the time, however, he remarked that the former Ajax forward can still do better.

“I loved how Kudus played. He was more composed and realized the balls at the right time. For me, he is the Star man in this Black Stars team at the moment. More room for improvement,” Gyan tweeted.

Meanwhile, despite losing, Central African Republic (CAR) coach Raoul Savoy believes his team was superior to Ghana.

According to CAR coach, the referees favored the Black Stars, and the second goal scored by the hosts ought to have been disallowed for offside.

Following their 2-1 loss to the Black Stars on Thursday, CAR was unable to advance to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be held in the Ivory Coast the following year.

In a post-game press conference, Savoy responded to his team’s loss by criticizing the referees’ work and asserting that his team was superior to Ghana.
