Former President and current National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama has congratulated Ghana Black Stars after they sealed qualification to the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Blacks Stars came from behind to defeat Central African Republic 2-1 at the Bara Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi yesterday to qualify for their 10th AFCON appearance.
After Mohammed Kudus‘ free kick negated Louis Mfouta’s early goal, the hosts in Kumasi won thanks to a late goal from substitute Ernest Nuamah.
Following the victory, Mahama who’s eager to return to the seat of presidency in the next election took to Twitter to praise the relentless Black Stars who overcame CAR in Kumasi.
“Mahama then charged the Black Stars to go in for the trophy at AFCON 2024.
Congratulations to our Black Stars. Great come back from a goal down and a spectacular victory against CAR to book a well-deserved spot in the 2024 AFCON. You’ve made Ghana proud again! Keep shining! Let’s go for gold in the AFCON,” the former president tweeted.

Relatively, the Central African Republic’s coach, Raoul Savoy, has predicted the Black Stars of Ghana’s fall at the upcoming African Cup of Nations.
Raoul Savoy claims that Ghana will run a similar campaign to what they did at the most recent AFCON in Cameroon.
After the Black Stars defeated his team to advance to the tournament, he told the media that Ghana wouldn’t fare any better.
“Your next AFCON will be like the last one,” he said.
Raoul Savoy also added that his side were far better than Black Stars despite losing the game.
He claimed that the match officials helped Ghana, adding Ernest Nuamah’s late winner should have been ruled for offside.
Following their 2-1 loss to the Black Stars on Thursday, CAR was unable to advance to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be held in the Ivory Coast the following year.
