Sammi Awuku, chief executive officer of the National Lotteries Authority (NLA), has urged Alan Kyeremanten’s campaign team to work with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
He claimed that the former trade and industry minister’s team must be on board in order for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to win the general elections in 2024.
Following the withdrawal of Alan Kyerematen, a candidate for the NPP flagbearer position, Mr. Awuku stressed in a statement that this is not the time for internal party strife or for making disparaging remarks that could aggravate existing wounds.
Sammi Awuku stated, “Instead, this is a time to reach out to each and everyone to make the 2024 campaign and election victory a possibility.”
Sammi Awuku called on supporters of all candidates, including those who didn’t place in the top 5, to band together while acknowledging the diverse support within the party.
He reaffirmed Dr. Bawumia’s call for unity, stressing that the campaign shouldn’t be marked by internal conflict but rather should concentrate on the bigger objective of securing victory for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“To all the supporters of the candidates who couldn’t make it to the top 5 and supporters of aspirants who made it to the top 5, please let’s come together. Let’s solve our problems together and once again position the NPP still as the party of choice ahead of the 2024 General Elections to deliver economic prosperity for our nation, Ghana.
“The challenges we face today as a party and country may be fearsome, but so are our strengths. Dr Bawumia and his team will work hand in hand with each and everyone within the NPP and outside the party to once again deliver victory in 2024.”
On September 5, Alan Kyeremanten announced his withdrawal from the NPP flagbearer competition, citing a number of incidents that took place during the super delegates conference.
At the party’s special delegates conference on August 26, Mr. Kyerematen finished third.
