Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, the majority leader in parliament, has urged the candidates running to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the general elections of 2024 to resign.
All of the candidates, according to him, must resign in order to allow Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the party.
He claimed that Vice President Bawumia is in the lead because of his qualifications, background, and leadership abilities.
The other candidates, according to Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, ought to withdraw because Dr. Bawumia will likely win the majority of the votes.
He urged the other candidates to use their words carefully both during the campaign and after the vote.
The representative for Suame in Kumasi, Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, said: “I am convinced and persuaded in my mind that next time, when the contest comes on, the least the man [Bawumia] can have is 75% nationwide.”
Hopeson Adorye, a member of the Alan Kyerematen campaign team, responded to Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’sremarkby saying it was improper for the Majority Leader to publicly express his support for the Vice President, especially since he was a member of the NPP Executive Committee and National Council, which made it clear that no leader should openly endorse a candidate.
In a related news, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has been cautioned against choosing to run for president as an independent by Nicholas Osei, also known as Prophet Kumchacha.
He claimed that if the New Patriotic Party’s outspoken flagbearer candidate decided to run as an independent, the party would destroy him.
Prophet Kumchacha suggested that the ruling party might take actions that are harmful to Agyapong’s business interests by comparing the potential impact on his attempt to leave the NPP to Papa Kwasi Ndoum‘s experience.
Again, Prophet Kumchacha foresaw doom for the NPP’s electoral prospects in the general elections of 2024.
According to him, the NPP will lose the 2024 general elections even if Jesus is their presidential candidate.
