In the event that Governor Dr. Ernest Addison and his appointees do not step down from their positions, the Minority in Parliament has postponed its planned protest to occupy the Bank of Ghana (BoG) facilities.
This comes after the NDC’s injunction application against their planned protest was postponed by the Accra High Court.
The MPs were represented by the Director of Legal Affairs, Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, who objected to the Police’s ability to start the action on their own.
According to him, only the Attorney General is authorized to bring the immediate action under Article 88(5) of the 1992 Constitution and the State Proceedings Act.
Earlier, the Minority’s planned demonstration scheduled for Tuesday, September 5, 2023 was prohibited by an injunction obtained by the Accra Regional Police Command.
Dr. Ernest Addison and his two deputies’ resignations were something that the Minority wanted to demand by marching to the BoG.
The BoG headquarters, however, was designated a security zone after the police voiced concerns about the suggested route.
The police initially gave Minority leaders assurances that they would supply the protest with the required security.
However, they also suggested that the planners reevaluate the designated routes in light of potential risks to public safety and order.
Despite this, Ato Forson insisted on ending the demonstration at the Bank of Ghana’s main offices and rejected the alternate routes that had been suggested.
Forson argued that denying them the chance to wrap up the demonstration at the BoG would go against the service and integrity ethos of the Ghana Police Service.
In other news, former President John Mahama, now aspiring president, has alleged that President Nana Akufo-Addo, in a strategic move to ensure appointees of his Government escape accountability after leaving office, has deliberately appointed several New Patriotic Party (NPP) inclined persons to the Superior Courts and other places.
His Excellency John Dramani Maham has therefore promised that the next National Democratic Congress (NDC) led Government under him would carry out a deliberate agenda to politically “balance” the judiciary with NDC-inclined lawyers who would ensure that members of the Nana Akufo-Addo led Government would not escape accountability when their Party leaves office.
The former President made the statements in his speech at the 3rd annual lawyers conference of the NDC held on Saturday, September 3, 2023, in Akosombo.
