The Director of Operations of the Ghana Police Service, COP George Alex Mensah, has clarified that he holds no ill feelings towards the Inspector General of Police (IGP George Akuffo Dampare.
His comment comes after a plot to remove IGP Dampare got leaked by former NPP Northern Regional Chairman, Bugri Naabu and was invited by the committee set by Parliament to probe into the saga.
According to COP Alex Mensah, he is determine to speak his mind whether the IGP likes him or not. He added that he will never keep quiet if his boss does something wrong and doesn’t care about the repercussions of his actions.
“I don’t have any bad blood against IGP Dampare, but what I do is I speak my mindwhether you like or not. If you’re my boss and you do something I don’t like, I will tell you. If you then decide to hate me for that is your matter,” he told the committee on Thursday August 31.
Appearing before the committee on Thursday, COP Alex Mensah said the IGP is not effectively running the police force.
The fact that things are not going well under the current IGP is a well-kept secret among the top brass of the police service.
IGP Dampare’s leadership, according to COP Alex Mensah, has caused a decline in morale among many police officers. He was speaking to a parliamentary select committee looking into a leaked tape of the IGP.
“Dampare is not managing the Police Service well and the majority of police officers are not happy. You can call the police officers underground and they will tell you,” COP Mensah told the committee on Thursday, August 31.
Even though he omitted to say which party he supports, George Alex Mensah acknowledged that he is a politician and that he works for a political party.
His remarks are similar to those made on a leaked recording in which he is heard telling Bugri Naabu that the IGP must be fired in order for the NPP to win the elections of 2024.
