Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a flagbearer candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has clarified his remark from the party’s special delegates conference over the weekend regarding a “showdown” with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

He has asserted that the comment by the independent politician was not a threat but rather an expression of confidence in winning the upcoming elections, under the direction of Kwame Owusu, his chief of staff.

When Kennedy Agyapong threatened to start a political brawl after his agent was abruptly ejected from a polling place, tensions in Cape Coast first erupted.

Concerns about irregularities in the party’s internal election process were raised when Kennedy Agyapong’s agent was expelled from a polling location during the super delegates conference.

The intense competition and high stakes among the NPP candidates are highlighted by Agyapong’s vehement response to the incident.

In a statement to the media, Owusu explained that the term “showdown” was used to denote Agyapong’s resolve to win the election on November 4 despite any alleged intimidation he may experience.

He emphasized that the remark wasn’t intended as a threat, but rather as a declaration of Agyapong’s unwavering confidence in his capacity for success.

Kennedy Agyapong is willing to assist the NPP’s disciplinary procedure, he further assured.

This demonstrates Agyapong’s commitment to resolving the conflict amicably and respectfully, in accordance with the rules and conventions of the party.

The clarification offered by Agyapong’s campaign team aims to allay worries and misunderstandings regarding his remark.

Relatively, Minister for Food and Agriculture and MP For Abetifi Constituency, Hon. Bryan Acheampong has said the upcoming New Patriotic Party November 4th presidential election is a foregone conclusion for the other four aspirants contesting with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

His comments comes after the vice president shockingly got 629 of the 956 total votes cats during the special delegates congress which took place last Saturday to trim the number from 10 to 5.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM, Bryan Acheampong said he would plead with the other presidential hopefuls to step down and allow Dr. Bawumia to lead the NPP in the 2024 election.
