The New Patriotic Party (NPP), which is currently in power, will enter opposition if Kennedy Agyapong isn’t involved in their 2024 campaign, according to Kwame Asare Obeng, also known as A Plus.

Without the implied support of the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, A Plus claimed, the party cannot win an election in Ghana.

It will be challenging for the NPP if Kennedy Agyapong decides to run as an independent in the upcoming general elections, according to the comedian turned political activist.

“I always say that Kennedy Agyapong was going to come second, most of the delegates were threatened into voting for Dr Bawumia but they are rather destroying Bawumia. You need everybody to be part of your campaign if you want to be president of Ghana.

“If you win and Kennedy Agyapong does not support you, and Kennedy Agyapong decides to contest as an independent candidate, what will you do? There is nobody in the NPP who can win an election without Kennedy Agyapong. It is highly impossible. You win the flagbearer for NPP, you want to be president and Kennedy Agyapong decides to go independent; he has automatically taken half of the votes and he has the support of the grassroots,” he added.

The NPP held a special delegate election on Saturday, August 26, 2023, with the goal of reducing the field of flagbearer candidates from 10 to five.

Kennedy Agyapong came in second place with 132 votes less than vice president Bawumia, who received 629 of the more than 900 total votes cast.

In a related news, Francis Addai-Nimoh, a flagbearer candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 presidential election, has expressed disappointment at not receiving enough votes to be one of the five candidates chosen at the super delegates conference over the weekend.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia won the conference of super delegates with a commanding total of 629 votes, or 68.15% of the vote.

Boakye Agyarko Kyeremateng and Francis Addai Nimoh, on the other hand, both received 9.

On August 28, 2023, Francis Addai-Nimoh stated on TV3 that the NPP delegates should be feared because they are human.

“They [delegates] are human beings and so fear human beings,” he said.
