A conversation about the Inspector General of Police (IGP) was recorded, according to Bugri Naabu, a former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He claimed to have hired a person to record the conversation on the tape that was leaked and allegedly contained information about a plot to have Dr. George Akufo-Dampare, the Inspector General of Police, removed.

Bugri Naabu said during a Monday appearance before the Parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee looking into the audio leak: “I didn’t do it myself but I requested somebody who knows how to do the recording to come and do it for me. I didn’t use a phone I went to the mall and got this ordinary tape.”

Because the topics being discussed were so important, Mr. Naabu explained that he had to record the conversation with the three senior police officers in order to have documentation to show the president.

He also disclosed that President Akufo-Addo received a copy of the tape that had been leaked.

The controversial tape that was allegedly leaked and claimed to show a plot to have Dr. George Akufo-Dampare, the Inspector General of Police, removed from his position, was true, according to the former Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP.

The officers’ explanation for this request was that Dr. George Akuffo-Dampre’sactionswere thought to more closely align with the interests of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which might jeopardize the NPP’s chances of triumphing in the upcoming general elections in 2024.

He named the two policemen as COP Mensah and Commander Asare.

The conversation, according to Bugri Naabu, took place in his office, which is located in Osu close to the Osu Police Station.

He disclosed that the two senior officers approached him with the intention of pushing for the IGP’s dismissal.
